From the age of 9 years old I started to actually bake, my first baking project was a jelly
roll cake, the second project was home made biscuits.
    I came from a family of cooks and head chefs, as a child the kitchen was my place to
hang out, I loved the aroma's the sights of the beautiful colors of the foods that were being
prepared.  The kitchen was a comforting place for me, my auntie would be humming
gospel tunes of that day while she was creaming butter and sugar to make one of her
delicious chocolate layer cakes and I sat and waited patiently to lick the bowl something I
enjoyed doing after the batter had been poured into the pans.  For me the smell of a cake
baking in aunties' oven was like heaven and yummy.
    I was educated in NYC public schools, graduated from Hunter College, NYC a Degree in
Early childhood elementary education, taught school for a time, however, the kitchen was
calling me, I answered the call.  I attended the former Peter Kumps' cooking school, New York's
once famous Chocolate Gallery School of Cake Decorating. Ajike has studied with famous
Sugar Artists from the United Kingdom, Australia, Argentina & Columbia, private lessons with
famous Sugar Artist Enelia Silvestre, and lessons from the grand dame Colette Peters.
   
    In 1966, Cakes Uniquely Yours School was born, instruction in cake decorating began
in a small space of a cake decorating supply house.
